American Eurocopter EC-145
Air Life’s American Eurocopter EC-145 is the newest aircraft acquisition to the fleet. Based in Bend, the EC-145 is one of the industry’s most reliable helicopters. It can land just about anywhere, and is renowned for its capabilities in hot weather and high altitudes. It features a specially-designed medical interior configured to allow the crew to provide the best possible care for ill and injured patients. And because every second counts, state-of-the-art GPS equipment enables the pilot to find a precise destination in a hurry.

Helicopter features:

  • Flies at more than 160 mph.
  • Can be airborne within five minutes.
  • Equipped with advanced instruments and full-capacity autopilot.
  • Certified to fly at night and in cloudy conditions.
  • Carries up to two patients (or occasionally one patient and a family member).
  • Equipped with sophisticated medical equipment used to treat injuries and stabilize patients during the flight.

Flight crew
In addition to a full-time pilot, a critical care nurse and a respiratory therapist with advanced training in heart, trauma and emergency care are aboard each flight. A perinatal nurse is also available for expectant mothers and newborns.

When emergency air transport is needed outside the helicopter’s range, Air Life’s Pilatus PC-12 fixed-wing airplanes are used as back up for air transport from facilities near airports and for hospital-to-hospital transfers.
